February is the best month for visiting Venice –
one of the most popular Italian travel destinations. It’s the period of the
carnival – the brightest and the favorite celebration in Venice.
Its history dates back to 1094 when doge Vitale Faliero included it into
the official documents. The word carnival means carnasciale or giving up the
meat, Lent. Later such restrictions lost its meaning and carnival turned into a
joyful holiday. This year the carnival takes place from 9th to
20th February.
This year Goldoni’s Mémoires have become the inspiration for the Carnival.
Here is the list of the main carnival events:
9 February
"Giornata di Venezia": a welcoming with the "Festa delle Marie", a
concert of 18th century music and the Band.
10 February
Children’s day in St.Mark’s Square. A parade and competution of costumes
for all primary schools, and shows with clowns. A concert dedicated to the kids,
"La mente di Tetsuja" (fampous for their soundtracks for cartoon movies),
acrobats and magicians in "Creature".
11
February the traditional
"Volo dell’angelo" - Flight of the Angel o with a woman (who? still a a secret)
presenting the prize of the international masks competition. This is the
official beginning of a week of shoiws and entertainment, to be closed with
fireworks and music in St.Mark’s basin.
13 February there will be
cocktail in costume in Gran Caffè Lavena.
14 February Hotel Bauer invites to PASSION ROUGE -
Three centuries of love in Venice. Guest can expect a refined menu for Saint
Valentine’s Day.
The most
glamorous Ball of the Carnival of Venice - Tiepolo Ball - will take place
in Pisani Moretta Palace, 15 February
. This day
there are also will be some other balls and a performance in Palazzo
Zen.

February the Sun King
Louis XIV invites you to an extravagant masked ball in the magnificent Zenobio
Palace.
The day of 17 February can be
called the culmination of a carnival - The Best Venice Carnival 2007 Mask (on
San Marco), Carnival Grand Ball (in Hotel Luna Baglioni) and Gondola Tour &
Dinner are expected. Don’t forget about other balls - Il Ballo del Doge in
Palazzo Pisani Moretta, Grand masked ball at Palazzo Albrizzi and Romantic
Venice Ball.
18 February Gran Caffe
Quadri will offer hot chocolate with cakes and sweets - the Venetian Carnival
time tradition since 18th Century. This day there The Sunday of Lovers – an
award of the most romantic couple will be presented at the Ca’ Zanardi.
The main event of the finishing
day, 20 February , is Carnival Final Ball in Palazzo Pisani Moretta. The
carnival will end up with carnival closing fireworks music at 23.00.
