Annual Edinburgh International Festival is an event devoted to classical
music, theatre, opera and dance. During three week in August different shows and
performances are held in six major theatres and concert halls and in a number of
smaller venues. This year Edinburgh International Festival runs from the 10th of
August to the 2nd of September.
The origin of Festival dates back to 1947. The goal of organizing it was to
provide “a platform for the flowering of the human spirit”. Since then about
half a dozen more festivals have appeared up around it in August and early
September, and altogether they are often known as ’the Edinburgh
Festival’.
