Salzburg Festival or Salzburger Festspiele in
German – is an annual summer music holiday held in Salzburg, Austria. The
program usually includes concerts and opera performances. Salzburg hosted music
events since 1877 but the new era of the festival began in 1920. At first
chamber and symphonic concerts were in the program. In 1922 four operas by
Mozart were staged during the festival. Initially only the works of Austrian and
German composers were in the list, but later it was widened a lot. The festival
became an arena for some world premiers. Some famous conductors such as Arturo
Toscanini, Bruno Walter, Wilhelm Furtwengler took part in Salzburger Festspiele
during its long history. This year the festival will last
during till 31st August. Among operas to show are “Eugene
Onegin”, “Le nozze di Figaro”. Among the participants of the concert part are
Wiener Philharmoniker, Berliner Philharmoniker and a lot of others.
