Occupying twin brick townhouses built in 1864, the Morrison-Clark Inn enjoys spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Once a private residence, the Morrison-Clark was converted in 1923 into inexpensive lodging for soldiers and sailors. First Ladies beginning with Grace Coolidge hosted teas to raise money for its operations. Photographs of soldiers and sailors who ate and slept in the facility line the walls. Even today, the inn's Victorian/Chinese facade still features a Shanghai roof and Chinese Chippendale porch. As a tableau from the past, folks sip lemonade and engage in chess and backgammon matches in the drawing room as high society dines in the intimate Morrison-Clark Restaurant. The hotel also offers complimentary access to an outdoor pool, three blocks from the hotel.
This Washington hotel features 54 guestrooms individually decorated in neo-classical or French country styles. The rooms are equipped with balconies or bay windows, premium bedding, complimentary copies of the Washington Post, and Victorian antique and reproduction furniture.
