Location. Punctuating a secluded crescent of Oahu's pristine coastline is the seaside Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii. Despite its quiet location, the hotel is within five-and-one-half miles of Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head and shopping at the Ala Moana Center. Complimentary transportation is provided by the resort to each of these venues. Hotel Features. Cabanas Seaside Grill serves meals under nine specially constructed cabanas, each seating up to seven guests. White linen tablecloths and hand-blown glass tableware add to the romantic ambience. Pacific Rim and regional Hawaiian cuisine is prepared at Hoku's, with menu items including Pancetta Crusted Onaga and Salt Crusted Rack of Wisconsin Lamb. A foot ritual welcomes guests to The Spa Suites at The Kahala, which hosts pampering treatments including the Hawaiian Essence Envelopment. A fitness facility boasts gender specific saunas and steam rooms, personal trainers, aquatic exercises and yoga. Children ages 5-12 may participate in the resort's Keiki Club, which features half-day and full-day sessions of Hawaiian culture and activities.
Guestrooms. Embellished in the style of the local coconut plantations, the 364 guestrooms contain fabric-swathed canopy beds, rattan chaise longues, teak floors, hand-woven Tibetan carpets, mahogany furnishings and accents in white, cream and tan. Furnished balconies or Juliet-style balconies with wrought-iron railings and sliding glass doors provide ocean or mountain views. Bathrooms contain red marble and mahogany vanities, designer toiletries, bathrobes and makeup mirrors. Accommodations feature CD and DVD/VCR players, video game consoles and high-speed Internet access.
Expert Tip. The decidedly friendly Atlantic bottlenose dolphins that populate the 26,000-square-foot saltwater lagoon in the middle of the property are a favorite hotel feature. Under professional supervision, hotel guests are invited to swim and interact with these highly intelligent creatures for a fee.
