Location. The Liberty Hotel is located in downtown Boston, Mass., one block from Massachusetts General Hospital. At the foothill of Beacon Hill and surrounded by trees, the hotel is one-quarter mile from Boston Common and Public Garden. Faneuil Hill and the Financial District are less than one mile away. Logan International Airport is three miles from the hotel. Hotel Features. A National Historical Landmark and formerly Charles Street Jail, the Liberty Hotel retains the original granite work and cupola built in 1851. The entrance at street level, redesigned by Alexandra Champalimaud, leads to the atrium and reception through a narrowing passage with mahogany stained walls. Escalators, featuring tile mosaics of people once imprisoned at the jail, lead to the central 90-foot tall atrium. Catwalks provide access to guest and meeting rooms located in the adjacent guest tower. The Jail Bar, adjacent to the lobby, serves cocktails and features preserved jail cells, barred windows and original stonework. The hotel restaurant serves regional specialties on the second floor.
